ARI's
thermochemical treatment process is an effective and economic
method for destroying asbestos and for treating other hazardous and radioactive wastes. The process
effectively destroys organic and inorganic compounds and immobilizes
metals and radionuclides, resulting in a product that is inherently
safe and often recyclable.
ARI
offers remediation contracting services, technology transfer
& licensing support, treatability testing, and engineering
& technical support for application of thermochemical treatment
to hazardous and radioactive waste. ARI has the resources
and capabilities to meet the needs of its customers and to
help address complex technical issues related to waste treatment.
ARI's
thermochemical conversion technology (TCCT) is the only process
currently capable, permitted, and available to destroy asbestos
and PCBs. It is one of only a few technologies at full-scale
maturity capable of destroying organic and inorganic compounds
and immobilizing metals and radionuclides into an inert rocklike
product, all in one process.
Advantages
of ARI's Thermochemical Treatment Technology include:
- Listed as Best Available Technique (BAT) by the Integrated Pollution Prevention Control Bureau for asbestos destruction in the European Union
- Capable
and permitted by EPA for asbestos and PCB destruction
- Capable
of thermal desorption followed by destruction of organic
compounds
- Able
to immobilize metals and radionuclides in a rocklike product
- Process
parameters can be adjusted to accommodate specific waste
types
- Able
to process a wide variety of contaminated media including
soil, sludge, sediment, debris, etc.
- The processing units can be made to be transportable
- The
process results in significant volume reduction of waste
(20% to 90%)
- The
technology can operate using a variety of energy
sources.
