ARI's mobile thermochemical conversion technology (TCCT) has been demonstrated and permitted at full scale in the U.S. on hazardous waste including asbestos-containing material (ACM) and PCBs (TSCA Permit Issued November 2000).
The
European Integrated Prevention and Control Bureau published
their Document on Best available Techniques for the Waste
Treatments Industries in August 2006. In this document,
thermochemical conversion technology is listed as a candidate
for best available treatment technology for asbestos.
The document is posted on the Internet at: http://www.bvt.umweltbundesamt.de/archiv-e/waste_treatments_industries.pdf.
ARI has conducted successful waste treatment projects for the US Department of Energy (DOE), the US Navy, U.S. Air Force, the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers and private entities.
ARI
is currently permitted to process asbestos at its facility
in Tacoma Washington. In addition, ARI's is permitted by
the EPA National Program Chemicals Division (NPCD) under
the Toxic Substances Control Act (TSCA) to operate a mobile
thermal treatment system for destruction of PCBs. Under
Washington State Department of Ecology Rules (WAC 173-303-071),
ARI can also perform treatability studies (with notifications
and approvals) at its Tacoma facility on up to 10,000 kg
of wastes containing other types of contaminants. These
capabilities enable ARI to essentially perform full-scale
demonstrations on a wide variety of wastes without incurring
the cost of mobilizing the equipment to a site. This represents
substantial savings when compared to the cost of on-site
demonstrations.
