Thermal
treatment of hazardous waste is typically expensive. ARI
Technologies has developed an economical way to achieve
treatment effectiveness comparable to that of vitrification (melting). The process is less expensive than vitrification because processing temperatures are significantly lower (resulting in lower energy costs) and because the high capital cost associated with handling molten waste is not incurred.

The process is also less expensive than incineration because the end product (produced from remineralization) is expected to meet Land Disposal Restrictions (LDR) because the process immobilizes toxic metals. By producing a product that meets LDR, the product may be recycled. Incineration of waste containing metals can produce ash that does not meet LDR and that may require further treatment.
