ARI conducted a demonstration on military deconstruction materials contaminated with lead-based paint for the U.S. Army Engineer Research & Development Center – Construction Engineering Research Laboratory (ERDC/CERL), under a contract with the Naval Facilities Engineering Service Center (NFESC).
The tests showed that ARI’s technology results in a 97% volume reduction and a 90% reduction in the mass of the material. The lead contained in the material was captured and concentrated into a product containing up to 25% lead in form suitable for recycling.
The data produced from the tests facilitated the development of a design of a transportable processing system for the LBP-coated materials. The transportable processing system can process the waste for a cost of less than 1/3 the cost of land disposal of the waste designated as RCRA hazardous waste.
