US
Navy Awards ARI Technologies $6.2 Million Contract
for Design/Build/Test Services
December
20, 1999 - Kent, WA
The
Naval Facilities Engineering Services issued ARI a
3-phase contract to design, fabricate, and test a
new mobile system incorporating a scale increase,
design improvements and modifications compared to
previous available existing systems. The first phase
includes development of design criteria, preliminary
system engineering and the detailed design. The second
phase is the fabrication of the new system. Under
the third phase, ARI is required to provide all labor,
materials, equipment, permits, and management to successfully
complete the testing and validation of the new equipment.
The system will undergo stringent validation testing
pursuant to TSCA for destruction of PCBs and factors
such as waste throughput rates, cost performance analysis
and system performance will be evaluated.
ARI
uses a high temperature process that destroys asbestos
through mineralogical conversion. The process results
in 100% destruction of asbestos and produces a product
that is inert, non-toxic, unregulated, and suitable
for construction applications. The technology is also
being applied to hazardous wastes and is permitted
by the US Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) to
treat PCBs. The technology is being further developed
for immobilization of metals and radionuclides in
wastes.
