ARI Awarded Contract to Design, Build and Demonstrate a Transportable Full-Scale Processing System to Recover and Recycle Lead from Deconstruction Materials Contaminated with Lead-Based Paint

October, 2005 - Kent, WA —

A The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Construction Research Engineering Laboratory (CERL) awarded ARI Technologies, Inc. (ARI) a contract to design, build and demonstrate a new transportable processing system that will operate as an integral part of CERL’s efforts to deploy methods for recovery, reuse and recycling used building materials generated from deconstruction of older military buildings. The processing system will be designed to travel to demolition sites and receive materials tainted with lead-based paint. As an alternative to simply demolishing buildings and sending them to landfills, the integrated system will recover lumber from these buildings, remove lead-based paint and then concentrate the lead into a form where it can be recovered and recycled. The process has the potential to help recover millions of board feet of old growth lumber and keep thousands of tons of hazardous lead out of landfills.
