ARI Technologies Awarded $225,000 Contract from DOE
for Technology Deployment

October 2, 2000 - Kent, WA —

ARI Technologies, Inc. (ARI) of Kent was awarded a contract by the U.S. Department of Energy Federal Energy Technology Laboratory (NETL) to deploy its Thermochemical Conversion Technology (TCCT) for destruction of asbestos.

The agreement, requires that ARI acquire asbestos from within the DOE complex, transport the material to its processing system located in Tacoma, Washington, and destroy it. The project will involve extensive monitoring and evaluation to document destruction of the asbestos and to evaluate costs for future applications. The asbestos is scheduled for destruction in February, 2001.

ARI uses a high temperature process that destroys asbestos through mineralogical conversion. The process results in 100% destruction of asbestos and produces a product that is inert, non-toxic, unregulated, and suitable for construction applications. The technology is also being applied to hazardous wastes and is permitted by the US Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) to treat PCBs. The technology is being further developed for immobilization of metals and radionuclides in wastes.

There are limited options for destruction of asbestos in the U.S.. Landfill disposal does not affect the toxicity of asbestos and it is becoming increasingly expensive. ARI Technologies, Inc. provides an alternative to the inadequate practice of land disposal for a wide variety of toxic materials including asbestos, PCBs, other organic contamination, toxic metals and radioactive wastes.
