ARI Technologies Issued Approval to Construct
Mobile Asbestos Conversion Systems

May 28, 1997 - Kent, WA —

ARI Technologies, Inc. (ARI) of Kent was issued an approval to commence asbestos conversion operations pursuant to 40 CFR 61.155 by the EPA's Manufacturing, Energy, and Transportation Division. This approval along with the EPA's Office of Air Quality Planning and Standards approval to construct mobile asbestos conversion systems allows ARI to commence asbestos destruction activities using multiple conversion systems.

ARI uses a high temperature process that destroys asbestos through mineralogical conversion. The process results in 100% destruction of asbestos and produces a product that is inert, non-toxic, unregulated, and suitable for construction applications. The technology is also being applied to hazardous wastes and is permitted by the US Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) to treat PCBs. The technology is being further developed for immobilization of metals and radionuclides in wastes.

There are limited options for destruction of asbestos in the U.S.. Landfill disposal does not affect the toxicity of asbestos and it is becoming increasingly expensive. ARI Technologies, Inc. provides an alternative to the inadequate practice of land disposal for a wide variety of toxic materials including asbestos, PCBs, other organic contamination, toxic metals and radioactive wastes.
